My father became ill rather quickly. He was diagnosed with lung cancer and within 9 months he had withered away to less than 100 lbs and he could barely stand up. His final day at home was the worst, as he was unable to even walk to the bathroom. My mother had to help him into his wheelchair, and then pushed him into the bathroom. Then she had to lift him up and put him on the toilet.
He declined too rapidly to have used a power chair. I wish he would still be with us, I would have gladly helped him get set up with a power chair to help him get around. But life is so fragile and it is not up to us how long someone will be with us.
Still, I see many people who seem as fragile as my father leading their lives with the help of their Zoom Zoom Chairs. They zoom around the grocery store, they zoom to the post office and some of the folks in our neighborhood actually zoom around the block 3 or 4 times a day just to get some fresh air! The world becomes a lot smaller when you are able to get around!
The World Is Not Nearly As Huge
Without a way to get around, a lot of these people would probably have died in their homes – alone. Because I see this as being a mission of mine, I have decided to do what I can to help the senior citizens around me – I want to help those who want a power chair of their own and I also want to help seniors with things that they may be struggling with in their day to day lives.
